Google Launches Three New Gemini Models Including Cybersecurity-Focused Flash Cyber

Google released Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Flash Cyber — a cheaper security model that competes with larger systems like Mythos — but the continued absence of Gemini 3.5 Pro raises fresh questions about its AI strategy.

Google has shipped three new Gemini models in a single drop: Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Flash Cyber — a cybersecurity-focused variant designed to find and patch vulnerabilities at a lower cost than large models like Anthropic's Mythos.

Flash Cyber is the standout. Google says it achieved "competitive performance" compared to much larger models while remaining cheap enough to run at scale. It can scan codebases, identify exploits, and suggest fixes — positioning Google directly against specialized AI security tools.

The releases come with a notable absence: Gemini 3.5 Pro, the mid-tier model that would slot between Flash and Ultra, is still nowhere to be seen. The gap raises questions about whether Google is rethinking its model lineup or struggling to make the economics work for a mid-sized frontier model.

Alongside Flash Cyber, the 3.6 Flash update brings incremental performance gains, and 3.5 Flash-Lite offers a stripped-down option for simpler tasks on device. The triple launch signals Google is betting on model diversity — different sizes for different jobs — rather than one model to rule them all.
