According to reporting, the White House acted after South Korea's SK Telecom was flagged for alleged ties to China, and after Amazon researchers found ways to bypass Fable 5's safeguards, potentially exposing Mythos's advanced cyber capabilities. The models are now restricted to vetted organizations only.

The intelligence chiefs were unsparing about what comes next. "Cyber risk can no longer be treated as a purely technical issue," the statement read. "This is a core business risk and leadership responsibility." Cybersecurity firms echoed the urgency: 42% of UK organizations lack a formal cyber resilience strategy, and cyber attacks already cost UK businesses £3.7 billion in legal costs last year. As one security executive put it: "Attacks now move at AI speed, disruption moves at AI speed, so if your cyber defences don't keep up, you've already lost."

What makes this moment strange is the timing. It lands in the same week that global tech stocks — led by AI and chip companies — suffered their biggest sell-off in months, with SpaceX alone briefly erasing 00 billion in value. The market is questioning whether the AI buildout will pay off. The spies are warning it may already be too late to contain. Two different fears, same week, same technology.
